LYNDHURST, Ohio-Julie Billiart Schools’ Lyndhurst Campus adds painted playground to help with student interplay

Julie Billiart School has introduced a newly painted playground to enhance interaction among children with unique learning and social needs, which include mild to moderate autism, ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, and other learning and social differences.  and other learning differences. This Catholic K-8 school, with campuses in Westlake, Akron, and Lyndhurst, aims to support and empower such children.

The initiative was led by Julie Billiart Schools Lyndhurst Campus Principal Chris McCloskey and Allison Frazier, CEO of Frazier Behavioral Health, who painted portions of the Lyndhurst Campus playground. Frazier, who is both a professional and a mother with experience in helping children with these needs, emphasized the importance of painted playgrounds in providing structure for kids to engage with their peers during recess. Frazier Behavioral Health has encouraged other schools to adopt this approach to create more inclusive playgrounds for all types of learners. They are offering guidance to those interested in creating painted playscapes.
