Social Skills

Navigating our social world can be difficult. Sometimes our children and adolescents need support and direct instruction to develop stronger social skills.

With the help of a psychologist or clinical assistant, we can:

  • Identify areas of need to target in individual or group therapy sessions
  • Teach and practice skills in a positive, therapeutic environment
  • Increase social skills helping children or adolescents become:
    • More self-confidence
    • An increase in self esteem
    • Development of more positive interpersonal relationships

Watch as Leslie Speer, PhD, BCBA, COBA, NCSP, our Clinical Director, discusses the importance of sibling support in a home with neurodiverse and neurotypical children.

Executive Functioning

The term executive functioning encompasses many skills, including working memory, flexible thinking, and self-regulation.

Impairments in executive functioning can impact your child in many aspects of their day and across various settings.

Many children and adolescents benefit from identifying areas of difficulty and developing compensatory strategies to assist them in meeting their day to day demands.

They often just need to find what systems and strategies work for them. Our psychologist and clinical assistants can help them do just that.

Emotional Regulation

Life can be overwhelming at times. Our children experience a wide range of emotions that they are not always equipped to understand and manage.

That is why it is so important that we help them learn to identify their emotions and develop a wide range of coping strategies. Our children do not come with a manual. So, often parents welcome support and psychoeducation around their child’s emotional development and how to foster the development of coping skills in their children.

Our psychologist and clinical assistants can support the whole family in identifying what strategies work best for your child and family to increase emotional regulation and make life feel just a little more manageable.

Sibling Support

When a sibling has a brother or sister who learns differently, the sibling can experience a wide range of emotions, including anger, happiness, resentment, acceptance, and guilt. They are often fiercely protective of their sibling. Even if the sibling has a strong social support system, this can be a lot for them to carry and process.

Siblings often benefit from having a safe, neutral place to process their emotions and experiences. It can be especially empowering for them to meet other children who have siblings with learning differences, someone who really gets it and shares similar experiences.

Our team at Frazier Behavioral Health can help siblings with processing their feelings and foster positive sibling relationships in both individual and group sessions.
